EN 3341 provides future teachers of composition with knowledge of the writing process, of the ways in which students develop as writers, of the characteristics of good writing and of the most effective ways of fostering and developing these qualities in student writers. In the course, students will also investigate approaches to teaching a variety of genres, drawing on appropriate theories, methods, and research tools to support the composition process. Since no one method or set of principles works for every teacher or with every student, the emphasis will be on finding a variety of options for dealing with different situations in a variety of grade levels and college classrooms.
