EN 3391 - Author and Work

Author and Work -  This course focuses on the body of work by one or two major authors, e.g. J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis, with an emphasis on specific genres developed by writers. 

Directions:

1. In Discover (above) search for sources about an aspect of "friendship" that you want to explore in this course. For today's workshop, limit your search to "Scholarly (Peer Reviewed) Journals." You might need to expand your search by searching "TX All Text" fields. Skim through the results and select an article that includes or links to the full-text. Consult Prof. Duesterhoeft and/or Dr. Hill if you have difficulty finding or selecting what appears to be an appropriate article.
2. Open up the "Collaboration" space in your Canvas Course.
3. In the Collaboration space, write your name.
4. Indicate what terms you entered and any limiters or expanders you used in your search.
5. At the database record for the article you selected, under "Tools," select "Cite," and locate the MLA citation. Copy the MLA citation into the Collaboration space.
6. Skim through the abstract and the article itself. In the Collaboration space, respond to two or more of the following questions:

• What are the main arguments?
• What is the point or goal of this article?
• Does this article successfully convey its main point?
• What topics are covered?
• What new insight or perspective did you gain from this article?
• If someone asked what this article is about, what would you say?
