There are a few federal agencies that have materials relevant to chemistry. Here are some of the major agencies that sponsor chemistry research and/or provide access to information about chemistry.
National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)
- Chemistry WebBook (NIST)Provides data compiled by the NIST and includes thermochemical and spectra data for thousands of compounds. Searchable by name, chemical formula, CAS registry number, molecular weight, chemical structure, and more.
- NIST - ChemistryNIST portal to chemistry topics, publications, projects & programs, software, etc.
- Values of Fundamental Physical Constants (NIST)Database of values of the basic constants and conversion factors of physics and chemistry resulting from the 2018 least-squares adjustment of the fundamental physical constants.
National Library of Medicine (NLM)
- ChemIDplus (NLM)"Chemical database is a dictionary of over 400,000 chemicals (names, synonyms, and structures). ChemIDplus includes links to NLM and other databases and resources, including links to federal, state and international agencies."
- PubChem (NLM)Open chemistry database at the National Library of Medicine (NLM). Contains mostly small molecules though others also included. Collects information on chemical structures, identifiers, chemical and physical properties, biological activities, patents, health, safety, toxicity data, and many others.
National Science Foundation (NSF)
- NSF - ChemistryNational Science Foundation (NSF) portal with programs funding opportunities, news, awards, etc.
Other Agencies
- NIOSH Manual of Analytical Methods (CDC)A collection of methods for sampling and analysis of contaminants in workplace air, surfaces, and in the blood and urine of workers who are occupationally exposed.
- Occupational Health Guidelines for Chemical Hazards (CDC)Summarizes information on permissible exposure limits, chemical and physical properties, and health hazards. It provides recommendations for medical surveillance, respiratory protection, and personal protection and sanitation practices for specific chemicals that have Federal occupational safety and health regulations.
- Chemical & Toxics (EPA)Lists common substances, information on chemical safety, releases and spills, and databases like ChemView.
