Congress, Legislation, etc.: Hearings/Prints in the Library

describes Library holdings and major internet sources dealing with the operations of Congress, legislation, and regulation at the federal level

General Notes

check Note that we ceased receiving paper Hearings and Prints in 2016, and microfiche hearings and prints in 2011.

Descriptions (except for some dates) given in the listing below pertain only to the tangible collection of Hearings and Prints in the Library. "PAPER" or "MICROFICHE" designations refer to the format in which a majority of publications for a particular Committee are held. There are a few items in the other format for almost all major Committees.

Dates given for non-current Committees are for the full duration of their existence; we may not have publications from all years. (See this historical reference from the Legislative Sourcebook.)

Senate Committee numbering note. For all Senate Committees, from the 98th Congress to the present, hearings are arranged by Congress, then number, followed by prints arranged by Congress, then number. For example:

  • Y 4.B 85/2:S.HRG.100-45
  • Y 4.B 85/2:S.PRT.100-37
  • Y 4.B 85/2:S.HRG.101-13
  • Y 4.B 85/2:S.PRT.101-20

Note that there are gaps in the numbering sequences, since "hearing' or "print" hnumbers refer to publications of all Senate Committees, not just the one at hand.
