Host: John Moder. Panel discussion featuring Charles Lerner, M.D., and Jonathan Richmond, Director of the Office of Health and Safety, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Presented as part of the President's Peace Commission spring 1995 program, "Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome." (75 minutes)

Host: Paul Combest. Panel discussion featuring Sr. Mona Smiley, American Red Cross; and Shari Sherman, teacher, North East Independent School District in San Antonio. Sister Smiley teaches about the Christian's role toward those with AIDS; she urges everyone to be compassionate. Ms. Sherman discusses how her life has changed since she became infected with the HIV virus; she details how she takes 22-25 pills each day, spends $800 each month on HIV-related medication and doctors' visits, and is restricted to a very limited diet because the medicine has eaten away at her stomach. Host: Cecilia Aguilar. Panel discussion featuring Father William Ellos, SJ, Miller Chair on Medical and Biomedical Ethics, St. Mary's University, and Adela Santos, JD, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Father Ellos discusses some of the pitfalls of the AIDS education program, such as the poster encouraging women to "make sure he's wearing a condom" which doesn't mention that 60-70% of women only using a condom as contraception becomes pregnant. Ms. Santos discusses Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which deals with the employment of persons with disabilities; persons with AIDS are covered by the ADA because they are considered to have a physical impairment, she explains.Presented as part of the President's Peace Commission spring 1995 program, "Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome." Host: Judy Geelhoed. Presentation by the San Antonio AIDS Foundation. Cecil Stark introduces Jim, Christine, and Paul, who are all living with AIDS. She explains the truth behind some common myths about AIDS and the spread of the disease. Her three co-panelists then each explain how their lives have changed as a result of becoming infected with the HIV virus. A question and answer period concludes the presentation.
